Synopsis: "We Have to Do Something Different: Teachers in the Journey to Create More Equitable Schools" is a new documentary film produced with support from MIT’s Teaching Systems Lab. Across the U.S., our schools are struggling to help all students succeed. On the journey to create more equitable schools, teachers make thousands of choices each day that impact the lives of their students. From Oakland, CA to Boston, MA, we follow teachers into the space where real change happens: the classroom. As educators grapple to find out what every student needs, they’re working to make school a place where all students can thrive. We Have to Do Something Different is designed to help educators make change in their own schools. The film provokes important conversations about the big challenges facing schools by taking a look at the small steps teachers around the country are taking every day to help their students succeed. These dedicated teachers provide hope that, while the systemic inequities in our schools won’t disappear overnight, educators can make a positive impact, starting now.

Country: Italy

Synopsis: The life of Italian pianist, Sofia Tapinassi, changed forever when she first discovered music written by Jewish composer Pavel Haas, who had been imprisoned by the Nazis in the Theresienstadt ghetto camp and died in the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Driven to know more she visited the Czech town of Terezin, a unique ghetto-camp within the history of the Holocaust. Over 140,000 European Jews were deported here, including some of the greatest composers, musicians and artists of their generation. Among them Pavel Haas, Gideon Klein, Viktor Ullmann and Hans Winterberg. Even though they were forced to live in unspeakable conditions, they continued to write and perform music - knowing this work could very well be their last. And for most, it was. Only 23,000 of those deported to Terezin survived.
Sofia spent the next two years on an intense journey, studying this music and meeting holocaust survivors to learn what this music had meant to them during the worst time of their life. She discovered how it helped them survive and has remained with them since their liberation.
We left the camp singing features interviews with several Theresienstadt survivors and powerfully reveals how Pavel Haas, Gideon Klein and Hans Winterberg deserve a relevant place in the musical annals of history. It’s an inspirational story of creativity and resistance in one of the darkest periods of history, brought to life through the piano playing and fresh point of view of a young musician.

Living in a postcard
Directed by: Christian Nicoletta
Country: Italy
Time: 52:00
Synopsis: For years tourism has sold us an idealized image of tourist destinations, creating economic growth but also transforming and distorting these postcard images.
I live in the CinqueTerre, an Italian destination, and I wanted to see for myself these transformations.
It is 2019 and the problems caused by over-tourism have become very clear to the tour operators and administrators. They look for solutions but are lacking the means and a common vision. To understand more I fly to London at the World Travel Market where experts teach how to balance tourism with residents and environment.
I go to Venice where the citizens have organised themselves into civic groups that ask the administration to not look at tourism as the only resource for the city. Then I go to Barcelona where the problems started with the arrival of online tourism platforms which propose the same tourism model in every destination.
Another global tourism economy is cruise tourism. From big cities like Venice to small Norwegian fjords, cruise ships generate huge flows of tourists which cannot be managed properly.
Covid-19 arrives in March 2020 and tourism stops, the problems associated with tourism look to have gone.
But have they really disappeared?

The title, drawn from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, rightly suggests that the centerpiece of the film is the struggle of black Americans to be truly free before, during and after the Civil War. Containing over 470 authentic images and photos, Shall Not Perish from the Earth presents a dramatic and compelling look into the heart and soul of the country fromthe broadest possible perspective of racism and the fight against it. The personal stories of the 6 artists show us how backgrown, cultural heritage and notions of “Danishness”, at the same time both liberate and inspire, and also weigh down and limit them. The environment around music and dance become a home for these 6 men, where their entire existence is reflected and recognized. Dans(k) draws a picture of how musical- and movement art emerges as a safespace and sanctuary, where frustrations, desires and dreams can coexist and where it is possible to be who you are and explore who you want to be.

In this way, it becomes understandable how the dictatorship functioned and turned into the commonplace "that's just the way it is", which still exists today and thwarts any criticism of and debate about history. However, overcoming the German "duality" remains impossible without looking back and reappraising this form of education that generated the authoritarian mind.

Containing over 470 authentic images and photos, Shall Not Perish from the Earth presents a dramatic and compelling look into the heart and soul of the country fromthe broadest possible perspective of racism and the fight against it. Together, they embark on a journey towards a more authentic self-realization, towards a deeper understanding and responsibility in the awareness of the interdependence between their inner world and external reality.

However, overcoming the German "duality" remains impossible without looking back and reappraising this form of education that generated the authoritarian mind.
